/Sta.Demonia Tattoo Stockholm 2026.10.15/

This weekend, Sara Swanson and Soledad Aznar, together with Julia Amigo, will present Queer Tattoo History / Stories, newly translated into Spanish as Historia(s) del tatuaje queer. Published by Kaótica Libros, the book will be presented at the Mary Read bookstore in Madrid. Authored by Sara Swanson, with photographs by Del LaGrace Volcano, a chapter on tattoo history by Helena Meyer, and an introduction by Julia Amigo!

Sara Swanson has gathered memories related to tattooing through interviews with LGBTQI+ people who got tattooed during the 1970s and 1980s, and the legendary photographer Del LaGrace Volcano has created portraits of those who shared their stories. The book includes a chapter on the history of tattooing in Sweden, written by journalist and historian Helena Meyer, as well as a chapter by researcher Julia P. Amigo, which explores tattoo history from a Spanish perspective.

Sara Swanson is a tattooer who, since 2005, has run StaDemonia Tattoo alongside her mentor and life partner, Soledad Aznar Rodríguez—initially in Barcelona, and since 2017, in Stockholm. Sara has also organized events such as Queer Art Fest Sthlm, Queer Tattoo Expo Sthlm, and StaDemonia Queer Art, in addition to a series of talks and discussions focused on tattooing and queer art—exploring how we can create safer and more pleasurable spaces for ourselves and our communities.
