My Pink Mind
– Who are the fellow cop-hating anti-fascists who also like pink?
Blomman Rönnblom (1989) is a trained welder, social educator and artist from Stockholm.
In My Pink Mind, which is their first exhibition, they have drawn on Swedish craft and arts and crafts traditions as well as left-wing slogans and anti-fascist slogans.
The traditional and gender-conservative imagery of old Sweden meets the ideologies that want to overthrow them in tapestries and household crafts.
Characteristic of Blomman Rönnblom’s artistry are humor, stupidity, everyday materials, anarchy and queer internet culture. Almost all the works in the exhibition have something pink in them, which reflects their femme identity and great inspiration – bimbofication. There is no compromise with the We in Blomman Rönnblom’s work. Allusions to radical subcultures, internal and niche memes linked to trans and jokes about gender make it clear that they create to entertain and create beauty for their community.
At the same time, the works in My Pink Mind want to be easily accessible to the viewer and have a quick appeal, where humor is a tool to achieve this. The sharply political messages become comical when encountered with a scarlet silk fabric or a tiny looking cabinet – which disarms the viewer.
The material choices are simple and can be found in most households: cardboard and boxes that would have gone to the recycling, needle, thread and fabric.
My Pink Mind reflects the ideological world of images that Blomman Rönnblom constantly have on their mind. Where the beauty of an ornate embroidery meets a call to fuck the state.
