05 maj Conversation about Queer Tattoo History / Stories at ABF Stockholm!
Welcome to Queer Takeover at ABF Stockholm (Sveavägen) June 4th at 18-20 hs! (In Swedish) Free admission, come alone or with friends! Welcome to listen to a conversation based on Sara Swanson’s book Queer Tattoo History / Stories. Sara Swanson and Pia Laskar talk about searching for queer history, about queer archives and historiography. Questions and thoughts from the audience are welcome.
Queer Tattoo History / Stories is an interview book, a memory work about LGBTQI+ people’s experiences from getting and being tattooed. Sara has collected memories through interviews with LGBTQI+ people who got tattoos during the 1970s and 80s. The storytellers have been portrayed by photographer Del LaGrace Volcano and the book is designed by Rasmus Eo Clarke.

Sara has researched queer tattoo history for several years. Pia Laskar is an historian of ideas and involved in QRAB (Queer Movement Archives and Library).
After the conversation and break, Sara, with the help of Butcher Queen, collects stories about your queer tattoos. Do you have a tattoo that you want to tell about? And that we can save in a future archive about queer tattoos? A tattoo can be called queer because it shows an LGBTQI+ symbol, a reference to queer culture or because it strengthens you in your queerness, or for some other reason. You are welcome to tell in a group or in the ´confession booth´ for Butcher Queen. Your stories can be anonymous or not, short or long. We are happy to record with audio but you will also be able to sit down and write down your story.
Butcher Queen, or Flor Rolf Backman Ossandon, is an artist and performaner and currently apprentice at StaDemonia Tattoo Stockholm.
The conversation and collection are part of a queer takeover at ABF Stockholm.
Sara Swanson’s book Queer Tatueringhistoria / Historier is now available at StaDemoniaTattoo.Bigcartel for 430 SEK (larger online bookstores about 580 SEK), at StaDemonia Tattoo Stockholm and at Bagarmossen´s library (but you know that you can often have a book sent to your local library?)
