04 nov Sara Swanson receive gesällbrev
On November 3rd, gesäll and master letters were handed out in the Blue Hall in Stockholm City Hall, and Sara Swanson was one of those who received a gesäll letter: ”It was nice to be there with Soledad Aznar, my master without a master title since we were only recognized as artisans in 2018. But nonetheless, they are a master of the tattooing profession, making their first tattoo 35 years ago and whom I have to thank for my profession that I love, beautiful also to see people working with their hands celebrated in City Hall’s Blue Hall. Tattooing is a profession that traditionally goes on through apprenticeships, even though many are self taught. We opened our studio StaDemonia Tattoo Stockholm 15 years ago, I myself did my first tattoo over 10 years ago – as queer and woman I have not had an obvious space in the profession, but we have worked hard and created our circles and networks of knowledge exchange – other tattoo artists and artists who are curious and generous with their knowledge. This means that I am officially recognized as an artisan, tattoo artist, and that our apprentice, for example, can receive study grants and concentrate on learning instead of learning day and working night. ”
