Very welcome to this year’s first physical vernissage in the series StaDemonia Queer Art! Pronoun Series -photo and video by Zafira Vrba Woodski, Saturday 29/5 at 15-18 hs! We are aware that we are still in a pandemic and therefore; 8 people at a time can be in the studio, we ask visitors to bring face masks (there will be extra for those who need). Outside the studio there is a larger space where visitors can meet with distance and also see the exhibition through our large beautiful windows. The exhibition can be seen at StaDemonia Tattoo Stockholm until 9/7.

A common depiction of transgender people is a pre- and post narrative. In other words, stories about being uncomfortable in their body, undergoing gender confirming treatments and then becoming “completed” with their gender identity. For some transgender people, this narrative is true, but for many, gender identity is a lifelong exploration between or beyond the two legal genders that exist in Sweden today.
The pronoun series is about this lifelong exploration of identities that are as much universal, non-human as beyond-human. Binary gender (male and female) permeates both our language, thinking, scientific and legal systems. Therefore, the Pronoun series is also an ongoing and constant exploration of what is beyond all this. Zafira puts the human identity aside to find kinship far beyond the limits of language. The Pronoun series includes both photo and video and a program with guided meditations.

Zafira Vrba Woodski is a Swedish-Czech artist, educator, curator and trans activist based in Stockholm.
As a queer transgender person, it can be difficult to recognize oneself in history. Too much of the queer story has been invisible, kept secret or misinterpreted. Throughout the art, Zafira has been devoted to depicting queer lives and experiences with video, photography, sound work, performance and text. Some of these designs are the exhibitions Gender Bender (2007) and Playground (2015) at the Museum of World Culture, #BelarusUnstraight at the Historical Museum, My Identity (2017) at Motala Art Gallery and Transtillgång at Galleri Hörnan in Falun. For the past year, Zafira has worked with Cal Orre with www.familjepodden.com – on queer and feminist parenting.
With support from the City of Stockholm, in colaboration with ABF Stockholm.
Accessibility: We have three steps down to the studio with ramp available.
