Conversation with THOMARAYA ”TEE” FERGUS

THOMARAYA “TEE” FERGUS, she/her they/them, currently Toronto based

How would you describe your work?
My tattoo work is mostly line work with black contrast , I would say they are collectables of magic, affirmations and reminders that the universe is vast and filled with enkles possibilities.

How did you come in contact with tattooing? How did you learn?
When I was 21 I was offered an apprenticeship, I learned with machine and continued using machines since then.

Where do you find inspiration for your tattoo art? What makes you happy/curious? Do you work with art in other ways than on skin?
My tattoos are inspired by spirituality magic, representation, Inclusivity, feminism, and just life in general.

Talking bout tattoo culture, What changes would you like to see? In what way can we as tattoo artists make a change?
I think more inclusive spaces are needed in the tattoo industry and more representation, I also think tattooers need to be more open to tattooing different skin tones as well and stop making excuses for why they don’t.

Tee Fergus tattooed at StaDemonia Tattoo Stockholm in September 2021 and at Queer Art Fest Stockholm 25+26/9.
